Though this blog was not created until 2024, it is really just a new coat of paint and a new sign for an old house.  That house is the blog θησαυρος της εκκλησιας (Treasures of the Church).   Begun in 2011, under the pseudonym "Wolfsbane," in the midst of my college years, it was, as my introductory post declared, originally a spot to post my translations of Fray Luis de León (which only resulted in about three posts).  More widely, its goal as "to reveal the little-known treasures of the Church," to document "my journey of exploring the countless gems that can be found throughout the Church's long, long history."   Though the Luis de León angle died out quickly, I continued to try new projects, resulting in things like the Church Documents Index  and the Iconic Icons series , as well as more inchoate projects like the Byzantine Psalmody series.  Though many of these projects involved work and writing on my part, this was not the case for everyt...

 I originally started this blog over a decade ago, when I was just a student and had much more time for writing.  Business of life (and a feeling that no one was reading this blog anyway) led me to give it up and leave the field fallow for almost a decade.  Now, though, I feel it is time to restart it, with a bit of a different focus: the main posts will now be translations. A major question might be: why revive a ten-year-defunct blog for a somewhat new venture?  Why not simply start fresh, with a clean slate?  That's typical nowadays: a new brand for a new venture. First, there is the simple fact that there might still be a few old-time readers of the blog around, to give a few views; second, there is the fact that the amount of content already here might give a bump in search engines (though I don't know much about how SEO has changed in the last ten years).  Yet those are simply small, practical matters, only really useful if I cared much about earning ...

My goal in this post is to explain why I created this blog, to explain the τελος (end or purpose) of it. To be honest, I am not wholly certain what that is yet. My original impetus was to have a place to post translations I am slowly working on of the works of Fray Luis de León, a 16th-century Augustinian friar, from Spanish into English. That's not enough to keep this blog going, though (especially since there's a good chance I will run out of steam on this project or become too busy to complete it). The name of the blog is "Treasures of the Church" in Greek (Greek is one of the original languages of the Church, and I have just recently starting learning it, hence why the title is in Greek). This is my goal, in a nutshell: to reveal the little-known treasures of the Church.
